Our Story

We first met in middle school, and started dating in eighth grade. We were one another’s first boy- and girlfriend. After dating a second time in ninth grade, we went our separate directions in high school; Nick ended up at NC State, and Elise went to Wake Forest.

In the summer of 2008 Elise crossed her fingers, and luckily enough, Nick hadn’t changed his AIM screen name since high school. We reconnected, fell in love, and the rest is history!

Currently, Elise is a third grade teacher at Mocksville Elementary, and Nick works as a software developer for a pharmaceutical company in Raleigh. In her free time, Elise is a Zumba Queen, jewelry designer, and amateur photographer. Nick prefers to spend his time spoiling our pets rotten.

Engagement

Over Labor Day weekend Elise had an extra day off of school, so we decided to take a day to drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had gotten a quick lunch with the intention of stopping at an overlook to enjoy it along with the view. While looking for the perfect place to stop, Nick suggested we stop at the Fox Hunter’s Paradise overlook; Elise had stopped there many times before and didn’t think it was all that special. However, there was a drive leading off from the main overlook that she had never explored, so Nick decided it was a great time to investigate.

There was a path leading from the parking area to the overlook, so after a quick bite, we went down the path. This graffiti greeted us at the head of the trail: At the outlook, Elise started taking pictures of the gorgeous scenery (of course!). Nick casually suggested she take a picture facing the other direction, and when she turned (with the camera still up to her eye, naturally), he put the ring in front of the lens. After an internal struggle (should I take a picture or drop the camera?), Elise put the camera away and said yes.

Wedding Details

We will be married outside at Lake Eden in Black Mountain, NC. Our reception will follow in the Barns located on site. Maps and directions will be included with the invitations, but if you choose to get directions online, please use the directions given on Lake Eden’s site. The directions on Google Maps and other sites try to take you on a bridge that no longer exists.
